    Wages explained

    The current National Minimum Wage for an apprentice is £3.50 an hour. This rate applies to apprentices under 19 and those aged 19 or over who are in their first year.
    Apprentices must be paid at least the minimum wage rate for their age if they are aged 19 or over and have completed their first year.
    The minimum wage rates are £5.60 an hour for 18-20 year olds and £7.05 for anyone aged 21 and over.
    Apprentices are paid for their normal working hours and training that’s part of their apprenticeship (usually one day per week).

The role will involve working alongside a qualified child-minder and interacting with children aged 2-5 years of age.

Daily tasks that the successful candidate will undertake include the following:

  • Assisting with young children's play and art activities
  • Stimulating children's educational growth
  • Reading stories and assisting with nap time
  • Maintaining an all round safe environment for the children
  • Providing a positive role model approach for the children
  • Understanding the importance of record keeping and safeguarding within childcare 
  • Escorting children on trips and activities off the premises alongside a qualified member of staff

Personal qualities

A kind and caring nature would be ideal for this role.

Qualifications required

Maths and English GCSEs (or equivalent) at grade C or above are desirable but not essential.
