    Wages explained

    The current National Minimum Wage for an apprentice is £3.50 an hour. This rate applies to apprentices under 19 and those aged 19 or over who are in their first year.
    Apprentices must be paid at least the minimum wage rate for their age if they are aged 19 or over and have completed their first year.
    The minimum wage rates are £5.60 an hour for 18-20 year olds and £7.05 for anyone aged 21 and over.
    Apprentices are paid for their normal working hours and training that’s part of their apprenticeship (usually one day per week).

Duties and responsibilities:

  • To prepare, cook and present hot & cold dishes in accordance with the menu using practices and methods appropriate to the dish.
  • To maintain the required level of hygiene standards as laid down both legally and by the Company’s own practices.
  • To maintain any equipment used to fulfil your job e.g. knives and clothing to the required standards.
  • To assist with stock control and ensure waste is minimised.
  • To support colleagues at all times during service and prep to ensure teamwork is maintained.
  • To work in accordance with all Health & Safety regulations and to follow the Company’s Health & Safety policy.
  • Any other duties that might arise in a busy and thriving kitchen.

Future prospects

The Successful Candidate may have the opportunity to progress to a level 3 qualification in Professional Cookery. The Successful Candidate may have the opportunity to gain a full-time position upon completion of their apprenticeship.

Things to consider

From the 1st October 2016 The National Minimum Wage (NMW) rate for apprentices is £3.40 per hour. From April 2017 this rises to £3.50 per hour. This applies to 16-18 year old apprentices and those aged 19 and over in the first year of their Apprenticeship. For all other apprentices the National Minimum wage appropriate to their age applies. The Minimum Wage for Apprentices applies to time spent on the job plus time spent training.
