    Wages explained

    The current National Minimum Wage for an apprentice is £3.50 an hour. This rate applies to apprentices under 19 and those aged 19 or over who are in their first year.
    Apprentices must be paid at least the minimum wage rate for their age if they are aged 19 or over and have completed their first year.
    The minimum wage rates are £5.60 an hour for 18-20 year olds and £7.05 for anyone aged 21 and over.
    Apprentices are paid for their normal working hours and training that’s part of their apprenticeship (usually one day per week).

Duties will Include:

 

  • Maximise guest satisfaction ensuring that the front desk it covered at all times
  • Answer the switchboard in a timely manner and deal with requests or direct calls accordingly
  • Relay messages by email or personally
  • Greet all persons who enter the organisation
  • Direct persons to the correct destination
  • To maintain open communication across all departments
  • To ensure all procedures for revenue processing are adhered to at all times and any discrepancies are reported immediately
  • To balance all monies taken on each shift including cash, cheques, cards counting and checking of floats at all shift starts and finishes
  • To be fully trained and knowledgeable regarding front office systems
  • To be fully conversant with all facilities of the hotel, all services available and all special promotions or offers running
  • To ensure sufficient supplies of change and monies in the float, exchanging petty cash following company policies and procedures
  • To deal with daily banking
  • To ensure the company credit card/ credit limit policy is adhered to
  • To carry out all duties for the early/ late shift
  • To ensure that filing and records are kept up to date
  • To maintain the highest standard of conduct, hygiene, appearance, uniform and posture at all times
  • Take reservations and up-sell bedrooms/ packages to maximise revenue
  • Deal with queries/ complaints and inform relevant people accordingly
  • Ensure guests receive a courteous welcome on check in and friendly check out.
  • To report for duty on time

Ideally you will have 4 GCSEs grades A - D including Math, English and ICT or equivalent

Future prospects

Following successful completion of your apprenticeship there may be the opportunity to go on to complete a Level 3 apprenticeship, or apply for any opportunities within the hotel

Things to consider

Please be aware that this role will require you to work 5 days out of 7, this will include weekends and bank holidays. The earliest start time will be 07.00 and the latest finish will be 22.00, so you need to be able to get to and from work with ease From 1st October 2016 The National Minimum Wage (NMW) rate for apprentices is £3.40 per hour. From April 2017 this rises to £3.50 per hour. This applies to 16-18 year old apprentices and those aged 19 and over in the first year of their Apprenticeship. For all other apprentices the National Minimum wage appropriate to their age applies. The Minimum Wage for Apprentices applies to time spent on the job plus time spent training.
