    Wages explained

    The current National Minimum Wage for an apprentice is £3.50 an hour. This rate applies to apprentices under 19 and those aged 19 or over who are in their first year.
    Apprentices must be paid at least the minimum wage rate for their age if they are aged 19 or over and have completed their first year.
    The minimum wage rates are £5.60 an hour for 18-20 year olds and £7.05 for anyone aged 21 and over.
    Apprentices are paid for their normal working hours and training that’s part of their apprenticeship (usually one day per week).

South Coast Sundecks Ltd are looking for an apprentice carpenter to join their busy team. The apprentice will work alongside the skilled team and will be working with timber and PVC. The successful candidate will have good customer service skills and be well presented. 

Typical duties for the apprentice will be:

  • Preparing services
  • Working to plans
  • Measure, cut and shape wood
  • Check stock levels
  • Finish products to a high standard 
  • Ensure health and safety is adhered to at all times

Requirements and prospects

Desired skills

The successful candidate will have a proactive attitude and be well presented and confident in speaking with customers. The apprentice will preferably be confident using hand and power tools.

Qualifications required

GCSE Maths and English at grade D+ or equivalent is desired.

For the successful candidate there will be opportunities for additional training such as the use of a fork lift and latest technology. Full time employment is available on the successful completion of the apprenticeship with opportunity of progression into supervisory positions.

Training provider

You will be trained in the workplace alongside your usual duties and you will be expected to attend college one day a week or on a block release basis.  

You will work towards achieving a level 2 apprenticeship in Carpentry including work based and knowledge components, an employee rights and responsibilities qualification, Personal Learning and Thinking Skills (PLTS) and if required Functional Skills.
