    Wages explained

    The current National Minimum Wage for an apprentice is £3.40 an hour. This rate applies to apprentices under 19 and those aged 19 or over who are in their first year.
    Apprentices must be paid at least the minimum wage rate for their age if they are aged 19 or over and have completed their first year.
    The minimum wage rates are £5.55 an hour for 18-20 year olds and £6.95 for anyone aged 21 and over.
    Apprentices are paid for their normal working hours and training that’s part of their apprenticeship (usually one day per week).

We work closely with City and Guilds to provide an approved purpose built training academy for our apprentices, which are specialised for both NVQ level 2 and 3 learning. By attending our academy you will gain further training and development on creative cutting, colouring and contemporary barbering, whilst gaining in salon experience.

Duties & responsibilities:

  • Practical salon experience.
  • Learning & experiencing salon structure.
  • Receiving in salon training.
  • Assisting stylists on the salon floor.
  • Carrying out simple hair treatments (shampooing, conditioning, drying & styling hair, and mixing & applying hair colour).
  • Ad hoc salon duties.
  • Providing comfort & friendliness to our clients.
  • Reception duties.
  • Ensuring work stations are kept presentable at all times.
  • Maintaining equipment and stock.

Training provider

Training to be Provided During your NVQ2 you will study the following:

  • CHB9 - Advise and consult with clients.
  • CHB11 - Shampoo, condition and treat the hair and scalp.
  • CHB12 - Develop and maintain your effectiveness at work.
  • CH1 - Style and finish hair.
  • CH2 - Set and dress hair.
  • CH3 - Cut hair using basic techniques.
  • CH4 - Colour and lighten hair.
  • CH6 - Plait and twist hair.
  • CHB13 - Fulfil salon reception duties

During your NVQ3 you will study the following:

  • CHB14 - Provide client consultation services.
  • CH8 - Creatively style and dress hair.
  • CH9 - Creatively cut hair using a combination of techniques.
  • CH10 - Creatively colour and lighten hair.
  • CH11 - Hair colour correction services.
  • CHB15 - Develop, enhance and evaluate your creative hairdressing skills.
  • CB2 - Cut men's hair using basic techniques.

You will achieve all of the above with the help of the following:

  • Attending our Headmasters Academy one day a week.
  • Working within one of our salons four days a week to receive on the job training.
  • Participate in in-salon education sessions.
  • Completing Functional Skills in Maths and English (Level 1).
