    Wages explained

    The current National Minimum Wage for an apprentice is £3.50 an hour. This rate applies to apprentices under 19 and those aged 19 or over who are in their first year.
    Apprentices must be paid at least the minimum wage rate for their age if they are aged 19 or over and have completed their first year.
    The minimum wage rates are £5.60 an hour for 18-20 year olds and £7.05 for anyone aged 21 and over.
    Apprentices are paid for their normal working hours and training that’s part of their apprenticeship (usually one day per week).

You will be working in the nursery alongside a professional and experienced team, learning a range of skills to develop a career working in a Children and Young People’s setting.

 

Role and Responsibilities:

  • Do you enjoy working with children and want to progress with it further?
  • An Apprentice nursery nurse is required to earn and learn in an excellent setting which provides a high standard of training and experience.
  • You will be working with a variety of children, from babies and toddlers to 3 and 4 year olds.
  • You will be trained to a high standard in all duties required of you involving keeping the children safe and enhancing their learning/play.
  • You will be supported throughout your training and treated as a valuable member of staff.

Personal qualities

  • You will be required to work shifts between 7.30am - 6.30pm so you must be flexible with your working hours.
  • You will also have to provide the employer with two references and pass a DBS check.

  • Essential that you have GCSE or equivalent grades A-C in Maths and English.
  • Level 2 qualification in childcare.

Future prospects

Subject to a successful Apprenticeship you may be employed by the company.

Things to consider

From the 1st October 2016 the NMW for apprentices is £3.40. This applies to 16-18 year old apprentices and those aged over 19 in the first year of their Apprenticeship. For all other apprentices the National Minimum wage appropriate to their age applies. The Minimum Wage for Apprentices applies to time spent on the job plus time spent training. National Minimum wage: 16-17 - £4.00 per hour 18-20 - £5.55 per hour 21+ £6.95 per hour
