Reporting to the Planning Manager and working closely with the other Supply Chain (SC) leads, this is an entry level role for candidates interested in embarking on a career in supply chain supported by an appropriate supply chain related learning and development programme.

To become an accredited supply chain professional (Planning, Logistics or Purchasing) and an integral member of the Polypipe CGU Supply Chain team.

The SC Apprentice will support the SC team in providing timely delivery of material input, effective manufacturing planning and a high service level of internal logistics and transport. This role has a wide remit which includes input to all SC admin and is an important support role to the business. Including Purchasing, Planning, Logistics and yard loading.

It is envisaged your experience and learning will form the foundation of a career in supply chain with the opportunity and expectation to progress personally and professionally to achieve the Chartered Institute of Procurement and Supply (CIPS) accreditation.

Duties will include:

  • Carry out general administration tasks as directed
  • Scan in documentation as required to support the archiving process on behalf of transport and procurement
  • Support the supply chain function with ad hoc requests for information from scan file and hard copy archiving
  • Administrate KPI’s and reports to monitor supply chain performance
  • Provide cover for departmental administration activities (when trained). E.g., Procurement, Logistics admin
  • Creation of 2 weekly Production plans
  • Inventory and safety stock monitoring
  • IFS, use of ERP system
  • Creation and management of supplier Purchase orders
  • Transport loads, administration and occasional customer contact

Requirements and prospects

Desired skills

  • Good computer literacy, with intermediate skills of working with Microsoft Word and Excel
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Preferably previous experience of undertaking clerical or administrative tasks
  • Previous work experience in a customer facing role
  • Able to demonstrate great customer service skills
  • Good attention to detail and an organised approach to work
  • Have a flexible approach to all activities and be able to demonstrate that you can work effectively both on your own, and with others in a team environment

Ability and commitment to successfully complete this apprenticeship and further professional qualifications.

Desired qualifications

Ideally educated to A level, however, applicants must have a minimum of 5 GCSEs (or equivalent) at grade C/4 or above, including maths and English.

Future prospects

On completion of the Apprenticeship programme the candidates role will be reviewed and permanent appoirntment considered.

The successful candidate will be enrolled onto a Level 3 Supply Chain Practitioner Apprenticeship programme which will be supported by our partnered Training provider- Linden Management.

This 24- 30 month programme will incorporate both on and off the job training and assessment in line with the Skills, Knowledge and Behaviours as set out in the Apprenticeship Standard.

An independant End Point Assessment will conclude the Apprenticeship.
