Who we are looking for:

This is an ideal opportunity for enthusiastic individuals, educated to at least A Level standard, who want to gain a professional qualification within the accountancy profession and progress their career within an apprenticeship framework.

What the role involves:

We have a number of apprenticeships across the different departments within PM+M.

Audit, Accounting + Advisory Apprentice:

  • You will carry out a variety of accountancy and audit assignments for clients in accordance with the firm’s procedures and report to the relevant client team leader and/or client manager
  • You will assist in audit assignments, when required, both in the firm’s offices and at client premises
  • You will be expected to have great communication skills to work within a team, keeping everyone up to date with the progress you are making

Tax Apprentice:

  • You will assist in the provision of personal tax services to clients including the preparation of personal tax returns
  • You will assist in the provision of corporation tax and business tax services to the firm’s business clients
  • You will develop and grow into a professional tax adviser
  • You will actively support and work with other members of your team and the wider Firm

Accounting + Advisory Apprentice:

  • You will undertake accounts preparation for sole traders, partnerships and audit exempt limited companies, both in the firm’s offices and at client premises
  • Work as part of a team on larger audit exempt limited company assignments
  • Preparation of income tax and corporation tax computations, where assistance will be given as necessary
  • Use a variety of accountancy software packages when preparing year end accounts
  • Assist with the filing of statutory documents

This role is to be based in Bury.

Cloud Accounting Apprentice:

  • Processing and using cloud accounting software for weekly/monthly/quarterly bookkeeping and VAT preparation
  • Preparing Management Information and Year end accounts
  • Researching and integrating applications with cloud accounting software
  • Helping to improve cloud accounting efficiencies
  • Assisting with cloud team duties, such as conversion work and providing ad hoc help to clients

Your development:

We will provide a study package towards the AAT qualification, including study leave and will mentor you through your qualification journey. Once the AAT qualification has been achieved, we would look at further training opportunities to help develop your career.

We also provide a complementary range of training opportunities to ensure that you maximise your potential in areas such as becoming a trusted adviser, how to network, presentation skills etc with opportunities for progression around the firm.

We have quarterly performance review conversations to ensure your development is on track. 

We also encourage you to get involved in wider firm initiatives and have your say on how we can progress on our journey towards being the best North West firm of finance professionals.


Requirements and prospects

Desired skills

As well as some relevant experience in accountancy, we’d like you to be:

  • Keen to play an active role in a dynamic team and willing to contribute to the success of the team and the firm as a whole
  • Passionate about providing great client service
  • Good communication skills with people at all levels – face to face and in writing
  • Knowledge with the use of recognised software applications (Word, Excel, Outlook)

Personal qualities

  • Positive and good at using your initiative
  • Good at working under pressure

Desired qualifications

Be educated to A Level standard (or equivalent) with a minimum of GCSEs at grades C/5 or above (or equivalent) in maths and English

A relevant A level in Accountancy, Business Studies or Economics (or equivalent) would be beneficial but is not a necessary requirement.

Future prospects

May lead to a full-time position once Apprenticeship is completed.
