The role consists of handling customer calls for technical assistance and then arranging site visits where necessary, although a very high percentage of technical issues can be resolved over the phone. The role also includes preparation of new machines prior to delivery, then assisting with the delivery, installation and user training on new installations. The installation generally includes setting up our equipment on the clients network. The second key part of the role is to promote new business sales of our products.

The day normally starts at the office - subject to any prevailing COVID rules.

  • Our first task is generally to monitor our 'CSRC' system which tracks our machines in the field, i.e. the CSRC system reports any faults and consumable requirements.
  • We will then arrange to visit any customers that may require technical assistance. Most of our clients can be reached via the London underground - our office is close to a Central line station.
  • Meanwhile, a vehicle is available if the client is not reachable via public transport, or if we are delivering a new device.

We also have a high street print/copy shop and all of us get involved when necessary.

In terms of training, Konica Minolta provide an online 'e-learning' facility which serves as a good introduction to the technical aspects of the job. KM also provide residential technical training courses. 'On the job' technical training will also be given by a senior service technician and sales training will be given by another member of the team.

A company vehicle comes with the position so a driving licence would be a plus.

Personal qualities

The role involves a great deal of contact with decision makers and business managers, so it is important that the candidate is presentable and is confident communicating at all levels. There is also a degree of lifting that is required, though not on a daily basis.

Desired qualifications

  • At least five GCSEs (or equivalent) at Grade C/4 or above including maths, English and either IT or science
  • Ideally you will have either a minimum of two A Levels (or equivalent)
  • Please ensure that your full educational history is stated on your application

Future prospects

We are looking for a long term employee. We are also keen to expand our product portfolio. We could, for example, be marketing IT networks to our existing customers. Another opportunity would be Document Management Systems. The Pandemic has reduced the number of people going into the office, which has in turn reduced our service revenue by around 20%. We are confident that we can get our turnover back to pre-pandemic levels both by adding more KM customers and also by expanding our current product offering.

About the employer

We are a Konica Minolta authorised dealer currently employing five people. We support around 300 of these machines, mostly in and around London. We sell other brands, i.e. Brother, Epson etc, but KM is our mainline. The majority of our company revenue comes from servicing and supporting these machines. Our customers are business users, i.e. solicitors, estate agents, schools etc. We aim at any company that produces high levels of print.

We have a dual aim: firstly to provide the best possible service to our clients, and secondly, to promote a positive work environment for our team.
