The lucky candidate would get involved with all aspects of the estate maintenance. The main duties will include:
- Grass cutting
- Preparing and maintaining raised beds
- General tidying and upkeep of the grounds
- Pruning
- Strimming
- Woodland maintenance
- Planting
- Hedge cutting
- Tree work
- Laying slabs
- Repairing and erecting fences and gates
- Vegetable and fruit gardening.
Plant identification will be high on our list as we understand the importance of this discipline. Weeding and understanding its role in gardening will also become apparent. All types of pruning will be shown from training to rejuvenation pruning, espaliers and pleaches. Landscape projects will be ongoing throughout the apprenticeship and you will be trained and certified in the operations of varying machinery used on the estate and gardens.
Over the 2 years you will become a professional gardener with all the tools in your bag to showcase your chosen journey as a horticulturalist.

Future prospects
The appointed apprentice will be working towards a level 2 Apprenticeship, with future prospects including continuing on with your horticulture education or increased prospects of a skilled job in your chosen industry.

There is a bus that goes from Truro right to the main gate.
About the employer
Trewarthenick is a large diverse private estate on the Roseland. It is a unique environment encompassing nearly 300 acres of woodland, farmland, parkland and gardens. The centre piece being a grade one listed landscape designed by Humphrey Repton.
Our horticulture team are custodians of this landscape and gardens and tend these gardens full of traditional elements in an expert like way. We have

This Apprenticeship will be delivered through a combination of Work Based Assessment and weekly attendance at Duchy College Rosewarne. The programme will culminate in an End Point Assessment, where the skills and knowledge gained on the apprenticeship will be formally tested.
