  • To ensure a high standard of physical, emotional, social and intellectual care for all the children in your care
  • To ensure all children are safeguarded and their welfare and safety is promoted
  • To work as part of a team in order to provide an enabling environment in which all individual children can play, learn and develop
  • To ensure all children in the nursery have all the same life chances, are able to meet their own potential and have equality of opportunities in their learning, development and care
  • To be key worker for an identified group of children, including:
  • Planning specific activities for each child in the key group, according to their stage of development and their personal interests and lines of enquiry
  • Observing, monitoring and assessing their development and rate of progress
  • Recording their progress to share with parents, and encouraging parents to be proactive in the process, including two-year olds checks if applicable
  • Updating plans for each child on a monthly basis to ensure continuous development and progress
  • To have the skills, creativity, commitment, energy and enthusiasm to support your children to reach their full potential and the best possible outcomes
  • To support, develop and maintain strong partnerships and communications with parents/carers in the best interest of the child
  • Report any concerns about a child’s development or progress to the Head of Centre and seek advice
  • Read, understand and adhere to all policies and procedures relevant to your role
  • Ensure all record keeping is accurate and up-to-date within your designated area
  • Work alongside the Head of Centre and staff team to ensure that the nursery philosophy is fulfilled
  • Work with and support all team members with all aspects of promoting positive behaviour and supporting challenging behaviour as and when it occurs
  • Look upon the centre, as a “whole” where can your help be most utilised? Be constantly aware of the individual needs of all children
  • To respect the confidentiality of all information received
  • Washing and changing children as required
  • To ensure good standards of safety, hygiene and cleanliness are maintained at all times
  • To ensure the provision of a high-quality environment to meet the needs of individual children regardless of any disabilities, family backgrounds or medical history
  • To be aware of the high profile of the centre and to uphold its standards at all times, both within work hours and outside
  • To be involved in out of working hours activities, e.g. weekly staff meetings, fundraising events etc
  • To be flexible within working practices of the centre. Be prepared to help where needed, including to undertake certain domestic jobs within the centre, e.g preparation of snack meals, cleansing of equipment etc

Desired qualifications

A relevant Level 2 qualification or experience to this standard.

Maths and English GCSE 4/C or above or an equivalent qualification.

Future prospects

There is potential for permanent employment on the successful completion of your apprenticeship.

Things to consider

Must be able reliably to get to Edale and be punctual. You will be provided with a nursery polo shirt and sweat shirt which you will need to wear with black leggings or black trousers.

Apprentices are paid for their normal working hours and training that's part of their apprenticeship (usually one day per week).
