  • Applies an understanding of security threats, hazards, risks, controls, measures, and mitigations to protect the organisation’s systems and people
  • Contributes to troubleshooting team activities and tests, investigates, and responds to security alerts
  • Works collaboratively with IM&T to understand the secure configurations applied to devices such as servers, websites, computers, laptops & mobile devices
  • Works with stakeholders to understand security threats, technology risk, and business needs to ensure appropriate level of security is maintained
  • Assist in the development of information security policies, associated processes and documentation
  • Communicates with all levels of the organisation stakeholders so they understand their information assurance responsibilities, the value of information security and are aware of potential threats to the Trust
  • Assists with identifying information security implications of new technologies or technology upgrades via cybersecurity assessments, inspections, tests, and reviews
  • Assists with the collection, maintenance and analysis of data needed to meet system cybersecurity reporting
  • Occasionally produces high quality deliverables in terms of both content and presentation. Examples of deliverables include reports, presentations, and reasoned arguments
  • Monitors and evaluates the effectiveness of the Trust's cybersecurity safeguards to ensure that they provide the intended level of protection
  • Assists with security improvement evaluation, validation, and implementation as required
  • Assists with the cost/benefit analysis of information security technologies and services
  • Carries out assignments, alone or as part of a team, applying knowledge, skills, and experience
  • Recognises needs outside own area of knowledge, recognises how these areas relate, calls for and works effectively with additional expertise as necessary
  • Plans and organises own work accurately. Undertakes assignments in a systematic manner
  • Maintains detailed knowledge of current practice within own area of expertise. Is aware of current developments within own area of expertise
  • Seeks awareness, and in some cases detailed knowledge of areas outside own area of expertise as appropriate
  • Ensures that all documentation related to own work carried out is developed and maintained
  • Occasionally deals with multi-stranded or complex IM&T security problems as part of own workload, which may have no precedent or where there are conflicting opinions
  • Takes direction & leadership from the Information Security Consultant to support effective resolution of problems and become a good team player
  • Provides effective delivery of service, with a can-do attitude, which maximises use of resources and is enabling and supportive to the customer base
  • Works on the security aspects of projects as directed, which impact across clinical and non-clinical areas; e.g., Information Security of new systems, new technical infrastructure or information systems
  • Works to achieve agreed objectives and is given some freedom to do this in own way working within broad professional policies
  • Undertake other duties that are within the general scope of the post, as required by the Information Security Consultant

For your apprenticeship you will need to:

  • Produce and keep a summative portfolio containing evidence from real work projects and work packages that have been completed during the apprenticeship and cover the apprentice standard for the role
  • Complete all aspects of the apprenticeship programme to the highest standards
  • Provide evidence of continual learning throughout your apprenticeship
  • Demonstrate an initiative to explore alternative technologies and methods that can be applied in problem solving
  • Meet all deadlines in the expected time
