Key Purpose of Post:

  • To assist the Day Centre Supervisor to provide a warm, safe, friendly environment for older people who have mild to moderate forms of Dementia and who have been assessed as requiring day care.
  • To work as a team with the staff and supporting volunteers to provide an appropriate service.
  • To help with the drop in service for older people and with other duties at the centre.

Main Duties and Responsibilities:

  • To assist in providing appropriate care including personal care for service users.
  • To assist at meal times.
  • To be involved in providing a range of stimulating activities and outings appropriate to the needs of those suffering from dementia and Alzheimer's disease.
  • To complete paperwork and other administrative duties required.
  • By agreement, to cover colleagues work during their absences.

  • You will keep under review your own developmental needs, keep yourself informed of current issues and be alert to the training Programmes and policies and attend all supervision meetings advised by your line manager. It is your responsibility along with your line manager to identify training and development needs and to inform your line manager of these.

  • You will take reasonable care for your health and safety and have regard to other persons who may be affected by the performance of your duties, in accordance with the provisions of Health and Safety legislation and actively encourage, promote and reinforce all Health and Safety procedures in accordance with the guidelines laid down in the TLC Health and Safety Manual.
  • You will exercise proper care in handling, operating and safeguarding any equipment or appliance provided, used or issued by ACNN or provided by a third party for individual or collective use in the performance of your duties.

Customer Care:

  • You will promote and deliver services in a way which is sensitive and responsive to those receiving such services and be aware of and implement the TLC customer care policies and service level agreement requirements (if applicable).

Professional Integrity

  • You will maintain at all times the professional integrity of the Charity and represent its main interests in any dealings with other bodies, groups and individuals.

  • To have the ability to relate well and to have empathy with frail older people, particularly those suffering from dementia including Alzheimer's Disease and to have had experience of working with this client group.
  • To have a good understanding of the needs of carers.
  • To have good organisational and communication skills.
  • To have the ability to help plan and implement a varied programme of activities and events appropriate to the client group.
  • Proven ability to keep accurate records, including financial records.
  • To have experience of working with and supporting volunteers.
  • To have an understanding of Equal Opportunities and the ability to implement this policy.
  • To have the ability to work on own initiative but to report back to the line manager, as appropriate.
  • To have some knowledge of the difficulties that older people face within the community.
  • To have experience of working in a day care setting for older people.

Trusted Local Care Ltd. is a new Social Enterprise, which has been developed by local people committed to providing a quality, person centred, specialist dementia day care services for older people. We are based in the Northfield constituency, and welcome referrals from the neighbouring areas of South West Birmingham. Trusted Local Care Day Centre is situated at the junction of Longbridge Lane and Turves Green, Longbridge. The premises have good disabled facilities including disabled toilets and access with ramps to pleasant enclosed gardens and off road parking. Our staff members are NVQ trained to grade 2/3/4 with current CRB Checks, as have all volunteers. We have strong contacts in health who are contributing to the development of our service further improving outcomes for our service users and their carers.

Other information

The National Minimum Wage (NMW) rate for apprentices is £3.50 per hour. This applies to 16-18 year old apprentices and those aged over 19 in the first year of their Apprenticeship. For all other apprentices the National Minimum wage appropriate to their age applies. The Minimum Wage for Apprentices applies to time spent on the job plus time spent training.
