To work within a busy finance department providing financial support to all areas of the business. Full training and support will be given to the Apprentice in all areas of the job role.
This is an ideal opportunity to gain experience in a busy office environment, learning essential accounting skills working alongside a small and friendly team. The right candidate will develop skills and experience within the Finance Department leading to AAT qualifications in the future.
You will learn the financial aspects of running a business, including sales and purchase ledgers, book keeping, nominal ledger and banking all within Sage 50 Accounts.
5 weeks paid holiday per year.
Requirements and prospects
Desired skills
Position requires customer service skills, use of Microsoft office word, excel and outlook. Knowledge of Sage accounting would be an advantage.
Personal qualities
Good communication skills both verbal and written. To be able to work under own initiative. Well organised, flexible and show attention to detail.
Desired qualifications
- Candidates should have a minimum of 2 GCSE’s including maths and English at grade 4/C or equivalent.
Future prospects
On successful completion of the apprenticeship a full time accounts administration role will be available.

Due to our location the suitable candidate must be able to arrange own transport.
You will be working in a manufacturing environment.

- The Accounts/Finance Assistant is responsible for assisting the team of accountants with junior accounting duties. These can vary massively depending on the team structure and size of business. An Accounts/Finance Assistant's work could include basic bookkeeping activities, working with sales and purchase ledgers, running calculations to ensure that records and payments are correct, recording of cash and data entry
- Typical job roles could include: Accounts Assistant, Accounts Payable Clerk, Accounts Administrator, Business Accounts Administrator, Finance Assistant Junior, Cost Accountant Assistant, Assistant Bookkeeper, Junior Cashier, Junior Credit Control Clerk, Data Input Clerk, Accounts receivable Clerk, General Administrator, Bank Reconciliation Clerk, Cash Poster and Finance Administrator
Method of delivery:
- Delivery will be in partnership with employers and will adopt a blended learning approach combining online learning and face-to-face lessons. Online lessons can be accessed at any time using a mobile, tablet or desktop
- Apprentices receive training and mentoring in the workplace and knowledge, skills and behaviour development at York College through a combination of classroom-based lessons, group exercises and discussions. Apprentices attend College once every two weeks and will study online materials during allotted time at work
How will I be assessed?
The End-Point Assessment (EPA) consists of:
- Structured Interview (supported by a portfolio of evidence)
- In-Tray test (which replicates the typical work on Accounts/Finance Assistant will have to manage in a workplace)
