A J Wheeler was founded in 2012, we are a chartered certified accountancy practice specialising in taxation and accounting for small to medium businesses. We are a small but busy accountancy practice in Portsmouth looking for another member to add to our team.

Working with the group accounts assistant to be responsible for processing invoices, preparation of payments, bank reconciliation, liaison with 3rd parties.

Main responsibilities will include:

  • Keeping the sales ledger up to date and functional by processing sales, raising invoices, posting receipts, and operating weekly credit control
  • Maintaining the purchase ledger, raising any queries on invoices with the supplier/purchase manager, processing purchase invoices on sage
  • Processing supplier payments and creating supplier statement reconciliations, undertaking weekly payment runs to all suppliers where approval is given
  • Analysis of purchase ledger items using department codes
  • Processing of petty cash payments, credit card transactions, bank payments and bank receipts onto Sage
  • Daily bank reconciliation
  • Assisting in the completion of any finance related reports
  • Attending meetings to provide support to your line manager.
  • Answering incoming calls from clients and suppliers and make outgoing telephone calls to clients and suppliers
  • Building rapport with property managers and suppliers, always remaining professional and answering emails within 2 working days
  • Providing support to the wider team when required
  • Ad hoc administration which is a direct result of work you produce
  • Attending training courses to support your job role, completing professional development hours required annually - this is outside of the apprenticeship requirements
  • General office housekeeping, including making hot or cold drinks for staff and clients

If you wish to progress to Level 3 AAT you will need to already have GCSE 9-4/A*-C in English and maths or Functional Skills Level 2 in both OR do maths and English to GCSE 4/Functional Skills Level 2 during the Level 2 AAT apprenticeship.

Future prospects

After successful completion of the apprenticeship, and subject to employee progress, A.J.Wheeler would like to offer you a full-time job.

The apprenticeship will need you to attend classes at college for the length of a full college day, which you need to commit to. Time spent training will come under the working hours per week.

In addition, significant on the job training will be provided to the successful candidate across a large range of day to day accounting tasks. Towards the end of the apprenticeship you will complete your end point assessment.
