Reports to: Nursery Manager.

Nursery Apprentice – What will you be doing?

  • To support the nursery staff to observe, plan and maintain accurate children’s records
  • To develop a sound understanding of Safeguarding Policies
  • Take shared responsibility for the care of children and health and safety
  • Ensure cleanliness throughout the nursery
  • To undertake a developmental programme leading to an Early Years Qualification as part of an apprenticeship which is achieved within the given timescale
  • To actively participate in your own development plan working through the qualification with the qualification provider and with the nursery setting too
  • To undertake induction training in the nursery with a named mentor
  • To keep your mentor informed of your progress and to raise any concerns or issues with them

Someone with...

  • Good understanding of health and safety requirements
  • Desirable - Knowledge of childcare development from birth to five years
  • Some understanding of the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) curriculum

Desired qualifications

  • Minimum grade 3 or D in GCSE or equivalent English & Maths
  • Experience working with children, is preferred but not essential

Future prospects

On the successful completion of the Apprenticeship, for the right candidate, there will be continued employment after qualifying with potential career progression pathways with the employer.

Things to consider

Our main nursery site is based on a working arable farm in Whaddon, just off the A1198 near Royston. The pre-school is at the far end of the village, a pleasant stroll up the road and across the village green. 

Ideally the apprentice has their own means of transport or means to get to the nursery venue due to its location.
