The role of the Business Administrator Apprentice will work alongside with the Transport Manager within the office. The apprentice will assist the transport manager with the day-to-day basis. This will consist of:

  • Replying to emails
  • Processing invoices
  • Checking for reported vehicle defects on our system
  • Preforming a gate check which will consist of checking wheel nuts, bulbs which are broken, listening for air leaks and checking the tyres for damage on trucks and trailers which have entered the yard – very easy
  • Dealing with incoming and outgoing correspondence

There is other task which will need to be completed on a weekly and monthly basis. On a weekly basis, this will consist of:

  • Planning which drivers and trucks will need to be downloaded for compliance audits
  • Organising brake tests and Yard checks for units and trailers for safety audits
  • Downloading the tacho heads of the trucks for analysis
  • Assist in completing Drivers Hours analysis
  • Completing 3 audit checks on Trucks or Trailers
  • Completing 2 Drivers Licence check
  • Checking London Lorry Control correspondence
  • Checking and filing Inspections and MOTs
  • Recording and analysing the amount of diesel used by the trucks on our system.

On a Monthly Basis, this will consist of:

  • Contacting our insurance for a claim review
  • Paying vehicles road tax
  • Checking the statement of accounts for invoices which are missing and organising the statements/invoices for payment
  • Printing out compliance/audit paperwork

On occasions, the apprentice will need to communicate with our Insurance Broker when an accident has occurred as well as following up with any other further request by them.

T&J Waste is a waste haulage firm which transport scrap metals ranging from London and surrounding areas to all the way up to the North of England.

The business administrator is expected to deliver their responsibilities efficiently and with integrity, showing a positive attitude. The role involves demonstrating strong communication skills (both written and verbal) and adopting a proactive approach to developing skills. The business administrator is also expected to show initiative, managing priorities and own time, problem-solving skills, decision-making and the potential for people management responsibilities through mentoring or coaching others.
