    Wages explained

    The current National Minimum Wage for an apprentice is £3.50 an hour. This rate applies to apprentices under 19 and those aged 19 or over who are in their first year.
    Apprentices must be paid at least the minimum wage rate for their age if they are aged 19 or over and have completed their first year.
    The minimum wage rates are £5.60 an hour for 18-20 year olds and £7.05 for anyone aged 21 and over.
    Apprentices are paid for their normal working hours and training that’s part of their apprenticeship (usually one day per week).

Your duties will be to:

  • Preparing vegetables, meat and fish
  • Dealing with fresh ingredients i.e. storage
  • Dealing with suppliers
  • Maintenance of tea rooms
  • Cleanliness of kitchen
  • Maintaining logs and other records
  • Ensuring customer satisfaction
  • Light baking

Desired skills

Basic cooking skills and first aid training would be an advantage but not essential.

Charismatic and friendly.

Qualifications required

Basic English and Maths. 

GCSE English and Maths, or equivalent, grade C or above is desirable.

Future prospects

The business is looking to expand into evening opening with bar service, possibility of progression within the business.

Training provider

Alongside the Level 2 Food and Beverage Service qualification, you will receive full on-the-job training to carry out the tasks necessary, such as barista training, baking, light cooking, use of catering equipment, kitchen hygiene practises.

You may be required to undertake Functional Skills Literacy and Numeracy if you do not have the desired qualifications.
