An apprentice role within a small dynamic expanding local company in a busy office with the ability to learn sales and purchasing functions with an understanding of basic accounts. In addition, the applicant will need to have an interest in engineering in a sometimes hands on role by working with two trained mechanical engineers.

  • General Office admin, filing, accepting in and despatching goods, Invoicing, matching purchase orders with Invoices
  • Discussing with customers and identifying the items they want to purchase and finding suitable suppliers including checking product specifications on-line and using catalogues
  • Creating simple hand drawings of components to be made or modified by Sub-contractors
  • Purchasing and Sales
  • Maintaining stock records
  • Dismantling small to medium size Engineering items and assemblies
  • Replacing worn parts and reassembly. (Under Supervision and instruction)
  • Use of PC including MS Office, Sage 50 accounting software (after inhouse training)

  • Good basic maths for calculations
  • A strong Interest in engineering and the running of a small business

  • A pleasant approachable personality, a willingness to learn, and a passion to exceed people’s expectations of them
  • An ability to respond to tight time pressure at times

Desired qualifications

  •  GCSE A*-C/9-4 in English and maths is required

Future prospects

  • Having completed their apprenticeship it would be expected, business permitting, that the apprentice would be offered full time role in the business

Things to consider

  • The role is varied and in the main interesting but the response time to customers can sometimes be a little pressured which the apprentice needs to be able to learn cope with over time
  • This is a salaried position with core working hours which at infrequent times need to be slightly extended to ensure the customer's delivery timescales and the needs of the business are met
  • This will be compensated with a mutual degree of flexibility towards the employee
