We are looking for a full time apprentice working towards achieving their level 3 qualification in Early Years Childcare to join our very busy Nursery Your role will be to support the children in their playing and learning and assist the keyworkers in the rooms in providing a stimulating, fun and inviting learning environment.

Your role within the nursery will be to follow instruction from the room leader. You will be under supervision at all times but you will be expected to show your ability to work using your own initiative.

You will be required to:

  • Ensure the care and supervision of the children with regard to their physical, emotional and intellectual needs.
  • Offering all children equal opportunities
  • Positive management of children’s behaviour.
  • Preparation, care, cleanliness and maintenance of the play rooms and equipment.
  • Supervision of children at mealtimes.
  • The staff at the Nursery are all here to help you while you are training. If you have any questions or are unsure of any of the procedures and routines please ask.
  • Additional Requirements
  • All staff members will require an enhanced DBS check.

Desired skills

The successful candidate will have completed Level 2 and have basic safeguarding awareness.

Personal qualities

We are looking for a lively, enthusiastic, self motivated person with a desire to learn.

Desired qualifications

None required, however maths and English will be assessed as part of the interview process. Functional skills maths and English can also be supported if the successful candidate requires these in order to complete the standard.

Future prospects

As a growing business there is a possiblility of full time employment following the completion of your Level 3. 

Things to consider

Our children are encouraged to explore lots of play activies both indoors and outdoors so it may get a little messy at times.

Staff meetings (usually termly) will be outside of working hours. You will be notified in advance.

About the employer

Pennington Nursery provides  childcare for children from 3months  to 5 years and also wrap around care for the neighbouring primary school.  We are open between the hours of 7:30 am – 6:00pm Monday to Friday 51 weeks of the year. We are expanding with a brand new building over the summer due to demand in childcare places.

Our Early Years team at Furness College will support you through a level 3 Early Years Educator standard.

 The successful candidate will be expected to attend an Early Years class one evening per week 4.30pm-7.30pm at Furness College. Maths and  English may be required dependant on GCSE results of the successful candidate. Online safeguarding courses and ongoing practical training will be part of the programme provided by both the nursery and Furness College.
