Throughout the programme, you will learn to:

  • Greet customers in a polite and professional manner
  • Provide potential and existing customers with the highest level of service
  • Deal with enquiries from customers in a courteous, professional and knowledgeable way, effectively communicating and selling the products and services offered by the company (face to face and via telephone)
  • Correctly process sales for customers using the in-store payment systems, quoting correct pricing, delivery date and stock requirements. Ensuring all documents are filed correctly
  • Continually developing your product knowledge and tailoring Howdens service to each customer in order to deliver the best service possible
  • Conduct account management and establish a customer base via account recruitment, aiming to increase the company’s customer base
  • Generate and chase leads
  • Achieve and exceed individual and store product group targets
  • Maintain excellent housekeeping standards including stock rotation, cleanliness, tidiness and compliance with Health & Safety guidelines
  • Participate as an effective and willing team member to achieve individual and team goals
  • Assist in the Depot warehouse as and when necessary
  • Ensure a safe and comfortable environment is maintained for customers and employees within the store and ensure compliance with Health & Safety Regulations
  • Assist with any other reasonable request in order to fulfil the requirements of the business and smooth operation of the Depot

Desired qualifications

  • GCSE's at grades C/4 or above (or equivalent) in English and maths would be ideal but not essential
  • If you do not have these then they will be covered in your training programme as functional skills
