Your duties will be to provide an effective admin support service to the doctors, practice manager and other staff of the practice, These will include:

  • Scanning
  • Data entry
  • Outbound calls
  • Sending out letters
  • Advise patients of the relevant process and charges for private work (non NHS medical services)
  • Enter patient information on to the computer as required

Patient notes and correspondence:

  • Retrieve and/or file patient records as required
  • File prescriptions for patients to collect ensuring strict alphabetical order is adhered to
  • Ensure records are kept up to date
  • Make and serve refreshments for the team and for meetings, ensure the kitchen is kept clean and tidy and tidy the waiting room
  • Undertake any other addition duties appropriate to the post as requested by the Partners, Practice Manager or Assistant Practice Manager

Administration Duties:

  • Filing, photocopying, replenishing forms
  • Preparation of leaflets
  • Ensuring that patient and practice confidentiality is maintained at all times in accordance with Data Protection Act

Other Tasks:

  • Ensure building security – have thorough knowledge of doors/windows/alarm
  • Make coffee for doctors and visitors
  • Undertake any other additional duties appropriate to the post as requested by the Partners, the Practice Manager or Assistant Practice Manager

Desired qualifications

  • GCSE Grade D/3 or above in maths and English (or equivalent) is essential
  • Acceptance is subject to college interview, initial assessment and taking a skill area test

Future prospects

  • At the end of the apprenticeship the successful candidate ‘may’ be offered the opportunity to progress within the company as well as applying for posts at other local GP surgeries and the wider NHS. This is however a fixed term position of 18 months, and there is no guarantee of any additional contract beyond that point. Amongst our previous apprentices, some have gone on to work at other practices, some at the local hospital, and one even progressed to become a team Supervisor

Things to consider

  • If the applicant is a registered patient at the practice, they must be prepared for themselves and immediate family members to register at a different GP surgery - essential
  • You will be working across two sites, based at LS19 6DD, approximately 1 mile away
  • Attendance and reliability is essential both for the needs of the business, and for future employment references. If you are someone who is unable to commit to working 5 days per week, or has difficulties remaining motivated, please do not apply

Apprentices are paid for their normal working hours and training that's part of their apprenticeship (usually one day per week)

About the employer

Aire Valley Surgery is a Doctors Surgery with two sites, one in Rawdon and another in Yeadon. We have many services and clinics available for our patients and it is a busy place with lots going on.
