Duties will include;

  • Ground preparation
  • Access, interpret & use drawings & specifications
  • Select required resources & materials
  • Select and use basic setting out equipment
  • Install, maintain & remove temporary equipment
  • Excavate & concrete foundations
  • Set out for, place & finish concrete to paths, slabs/bases and form slab edgings.
  • Position reinforcement & kerbs
  • Install drainage
  • Floor slab preparation
  • Lay slabs, paviours & edgings to paths, driveways, car parks etc.
  • Locate & excavate  buried utility services

Requirements and prospects

Desired skills

  • Willing and able to learn with an interest in the groundworks industry
  • Must have good timekeeping skills and understand the importance of team working
  • Basic maths/English – candidates will be expected to take and pass the Health, Safety & Environment test for Operatives
  • Good communication skills

Personal qualities

  • Must be personable and possess an ability to work within a team
  • Good work ethic required

Desired qualifications

  • GCSE grade C/4 or above in English and maths (or equivalent)

(If you do not already meet these criteria, we will ask you to sit initial assessments to indicate which level you are currently working at)

Future prospects

  • Training will be given in both groundwork and plant driving to attain CITB or equal tickets
  • Progression through the company offered up to Supervisor/Contract Management

Things to consider

  • Our office/yard is situated in a rural area with no public transport therefore an ability to get yourself to our yard on time is necessary
  • Work will be at various sites around the East Midlands although usually transport will be provided from our Old Dalby address
  • Starting salary dependant on age and experience
  • As an apprentice you can apply for an NUS Apprentice extra card which can be used at hundreds of high street and online brands.
