Day-to-day duties will include:

  • Setting up and carrying out activities for the children
  • Observing children and updating children's developmental records
  • Carrying out general hygiene and cleaning duties
  • Follow the nursery policies and procedures at all times to ensure the safety of all children and staff

Future prospects

On completion of the Level 2 Certificate for the Children and Young People's Workforce, you may be offered the opportunity to progress on to the Level 3 Diploma for children's learning and development Early Years Educator (EYE).

Apprenticeship National Minimum Wage (ANMW): The National Minimum Wage for Apprentices is £3.40 per hour from 1st October 2016. This is the legal minimum pay per hour applying to 16-18 year olds, although some employers may pay a higher rate. The wage for Apprentices applies to both time spent on the job plus time spent training A DBS check will be required. Employer interviews will be carried out before the vacancy closing date, and a start date arranged as soon as possible. This role requires you to stand, working with children for the majority of your day. You will need to speak to parents and other staff. You will have to fill in paperwork on a daily basis and will be required to take children out of the setting when necessary.

Training provider

A Nursery Nurse will be employed for up to 40 hours per week.

Your employer will appoint a work based mentor to support you and you will get a dedicated training manager from Smart Training.

On completion of your training you will be awarded a Level 2 Certificate for the Children and Young People's Workforce, Level 1 Functional Skills qualification in Maths and English, and an Employment Rights and Responsibilities qualification.
