    Wages explained

    The current National Minimum Wage for an apprentice is £3.50 an hour. This rate applies to apprentices under 19 and those aged 19 or over who are in their first year.
    Apprentices must be paid at least the minimum wage rate for their age if they are aged 19 or over and have completed their first year.
    The minimum wage rates are £5.60 an hour for 18-20 year olds and £7.05 for anyone aged 21 and over.
    Apprentices are paid for their normal working hours and training that’s part of their apprenticeship (usually one day per week).

An exciting opportunity has arisen in a recently established precision engineering company for a full-time apprentice. Day to day the apprentice will report to the MD who will be advising and supporting their training, as well as organising external and in-house training.

 

Over time the candidate will be become a highly skilled CNC Programmer, Setter, and Operator as well as being competent in 2D & 3D Cad design and programming.

 

Duties will include:

  • CNC Machining.
  • Carrying out 2D and 3D design and programming.
  • Assisting colleagues with other duties within the workshop.

Requirements and prospects

Desired skills

  • Good Maths, English, and Problem solving skills are essential.

Personal qualities

  • The right candidate would be a confident person with a ‘can do’ attitude who is committed to their role and wants to gain a rewarding career.

Qualifications required

  • A*-C grades including Maths, English and Science as a minimum. 
  • PROCAT will determine suitability by interview and proof of grades/predicted grades.

Future prospects

As the company is growing day by day we plan to take on and train more apprentices in the future, so the current position could lead to them training people in the future as well as progressing in roles and responsibilities.

Things to consider

Having your own transport would be a big bonus but not essential.
