Starting with the basics, the apprentice will work with a team of professional chefs and assist in the kitchen where required. You will support the team in the preparation and cooking of dishes for restaurant diners, private parties, weddings and events. With menus for the bar, brasserie and even afternoon teas, there will be plenty of variety.

    Wages explained

    The current National Minimum Wage rates are £4.05 an hour for 16 - 17 year olds, £5.60 an hour for 18 - 20 year olds and £7.05 for anyone aged 21 and over.
    Apprentices are paid for their normal working hours and training that’s part of their apprenticeship(usually one day per week).

Qualifications required

Candidates will ideally have a minimum of 3 GCSE A* - D grade (or equivalent qualifications). This is helpful but not essential. No other qualifications required as training will be provided.

Things to consider

This role will involve working unsociable hours e.g. evenings and weekends and will be subject to a changeable shift. Also, due to location of the College and the employer, candidates must consider how they will travel to work and college.

Training provider

  • Diploma in Professional Cookery Level 2 - assessed in the workplace.
  • Technical Certificate in Hospitality and Catering Principles - assessed in College.
  • Functional Skills in Maths and English up to Level 2

The right candidate will then progress onto an Advanced Apprenticeship in Professional Cookery.
