The current National Minimum Wage for an apprentice is £3.50 an hour. This rate applies to apprentices under 19 and those aged 19 or over who are in their first year.
Apprentices must be paid at least the minimum wage rate for their age if they are aged 19 or over and have completed their first year.
The minimum wage rates are £5.60 an hour for 18-20 year olds and £7.05 for anyone aged 21 and over.
Apprentices are paid for their normal working hours and training that’s part of their apprenticeship (usually one day per week).

Intermediate Level Apprenticeship
Head First is offering a fantastic opportunity for an Apprentice to join their team at their busy salon and barber shop in Chorley. If you are up for a challenge and looking to kick start your career in hairdressing this could be the ideal opportunity for you.
The successful candidate will be working alongside three other stylists in a busy town centre lady’s salon and men’s barber shop. Day-to-day duties will include:
- Meeting, greeting and catering to the needs of the clients in the salon
- Making refreshments
- Making sure the stylists are organised
- Supporting the stylists on a daily basis
- Handling money
- Going to the bank
- Shampooing, conditioning and blow drying
You must be very well organised, confident and most importantly be able to use your initiative. We are looking for someone who is highly motivated and has a genuine passion for working and progressing in the hairdressing industry.
Hours of work are 30 hours per week including Saturdays and 1 day per week at College in Euxton, near Chorley, during term-time.
The Apprenticeship training for this vacancy will be provided by Runshaw College. As this is a funded Apprenticeship programme it is not open to candidates who have already achieved a qualification at Level 4 or above.

Must have at least 4 GCSE grades A*-D (or equivalent), including Maths and English.
