Chef Apprenticeship position available to learn the preparation and cooking of all fresh ingredients on site.

This will include:

  • Meat
  • Fish
  • Poultry
  • Vegetables
  • Breakfast
  • Banqueting
  • Desserts

You will learn basic kitchen skills and in addition learn about:

  • Food hygiene.
  • Health & safety.
  • Storage and cleaning.

Qualifications required

  • GCSE English and Maths grades A-D (or equivalent).
  • GCSE Cookery/Food Tech or equivalent desirable.

Literacy and numeracy skills will be tested as part of the recruitment process. Applicants will be expected to achieve online test results at or above Level 1. You will find it useful to test your skills and practice using online tests by going to and following the 'Test My Skills' link.

Future prospects

On completion of level 2 intermediate apprenticeship you may be able to progress to level 3 advanced apprenticeship.

Things to consider

Remember you will be physically active all day! You will be working in a hot and busy kitchen Also, you will work a rota which may require you to work weekends and evenings so this may affect your social life!

Training provider

The Apprentice will undertake a Level 2 Professional Cookery qualification (competence element) in Professional Cookery, plus functional skills qualifications in Maths and English.

Work-based evidence will be gathered on the job and assessed against the competencies included within the qualification. Functional skills qualifications are taught by the College and will help develop important skills including communication, team work, problem solving and presentations.

The apprentice will also study Employment Rights and Responsibilities and Personal Learning and Thinking Skills, giving them important insights into the world of employment, a framework for describing the qualities and skills needed for success in learning and life.
