    Wages explained

    The current National Minimum Wage for an apprentice is £3.50 an hour. This rate applies to apprentices under 19 and those aged 19 or over who are in their first year.
    Apprentices must be paid at least the minimum wage rate for their age if they are aged 19 or over and have completed their first year.
    The minimum wage rates are £5.60 an hour for 18-20 year olds and £7.05 for anyone aged 21 and over.
    Apprentices are paid for their normal working hours and training that’s part of their apprenticeship (usually one day per week).

The post holder will assist with a range of technical and administrative duties across all Environment, Health and Consumer Protection Services.

Duties will include:

  • To maintain licensing administration systems, reception services and provide advice and assistance to customers.
  • To ensure that all manual and computerised records are maintained in respect of the
  • service.
  • To assist in the maintenance of the divisions financial management system.
  • To assist in the provision of information on budgets.
  • To assist in the monitoring of performance through the collection and collation of performance data as required by the Head of Environment, Health and Consumer Protection.
  • To assist in the provision of an efficient and effective filing system within the Service to ensure that filing tasks are completed regularly and effectively, including any records, archives and library services.

Qualifications required

  • 4 GCSE’s (A – C grades) or equivalent relevant qualification.

The successful candidate will gain experience and qualifications to enable them to apply for Business Administration posts.

Training provider

  • Training to be provided by Durham County Council's Adult Learning and Skills Service.
  • Apprentices will complete a framework of qualifications up to NVQ Level 3 including a recognised Technical Certificate.
  • The Business Support Apprenticeship is an 18 month programme, undertaking administrative tasks, studying towards NVQ Level 2 or 3 in Business Administration.
