The current National Minimum Wage for an apprentice is £3.50 an hour. This rate applies to apprentices under 19 and those aged 19 or over who are in their first year.
Apprentices must be paid at least the minimum wage rate for their age if they are aged 19 or over and have completed their first year.
The minimum wage rates are £5.60 an hour for 18-20 year olds and £7.05 for anyone aged 21 and over.
Apprentices are paid for their normal working hours and training that’s part of their apprenticeship (usually one day per week).

Intermediate Level Apprenticeship
The role of Apprentice will include:
- Learning vital office skills such as planning, organising, filing, processing and managing correspondence
- Providing administration support
- Processing reference requests
- Ordering name badges
- Distributing post
- Dealing with and resolving queries both by email, face to face and over the phone
Requirements and prospects
- Basic knowledge of MS packages (including Outlook, Word and Excel)
- Great communication skills
- Good attention to detail
- Commitment, determination and enthusiasm
- Flexible and adaptable team player
- A minimum of 2 GCSEs (or equivalent) in Maths and English.

About the employer
Training through HWGTA normally comprises of five days per week in company with one day release on a fortnightly basis to our Training Centre at McKenzie Way, doing an appropriate course of study.
A monthly monitoring visit in company will also take place, during which we make ourselves available for discussion about any special training that may be useful to you, identify and resolve problems if they arise and plan work for your qualification.
Apprentices generally work towards an NVQ level 2 or 3 in their chosen vocational area. In addition, the training programme includes a mandatory 5-day team building residential course, usually held in April/May each year, text processing exams, and if undertaking a level 3 qualification a 3-day first aid at work qualification. Functional Skills qualifications may also need to be undertaken depending on prior qualifications and levels
