We have an opportunity for a Thermal Insulation Apprentice to join our reputable local company.

The successful candidate will gain a variety of niche skills, including pipework, vessel and ductwork, insulation and cladding within the medium size sector of the thermal insulation industry, working locally and away from home.

You will gain knowledge and experience fitting insulation alongside time spent in our fabrication workshop, gaining the necessary skills to fabricate sheet metal insulation.

Dependant on age, the apprenticeship can last up to 2 years with a mixture of learning on the job and also at the training centre.

The National Training Centre for the apprenticeship is based in Darlington, in the North East of England.

Successful candidates will be required to attend the training centre for 2 week blocks approximately every 3 months, working onsite in between visits.

Candidates complete approx. 14-16 weeks at the centre in Darlington, over the length of the apprenticeship.

Lodging away from home will be required during this time.

Candidates will receive full training at the centre, which includes a vast range of industrial materials, finishes, sheet metal work and fabrication, through to pipework, fittings and vessels.

Daily duties would include:

  • Applying insulation materials
  • Applying sheet metal and various finishes to pipework and ductwork
  • Fabricating sheet metal using tools and machinery equipment

  • They should be enthusiastic, reliable, willing to learn and co-operate with existing employees


Qualifications required

GCSE grade A-C in Maths and English or equivalent is desirable.

Things to consider

Apprenticeship National Minimum Wage (ANMW): The National Minimum Wage for Apprentices is £3.50 per hour from 1st April 2017. This is the legal minimum pay per hour applying to 16-18 year old apprentices and those aged 19 and over in the first year of their apprenticeship. For apprentices 19 or over who have completed their first year and are continuing their apprenticeship, the National Minimum wage appropriate to their age applies. The wage for Apprentices applies to both time spent on the job plus time spent training.

Training provider

The successful candidate will have training provided as part of the apprenticeship from the National Training Centre in Darlington, as well as being complimented by training 'on the job'.
