The team at King Edwards school in Bury St Edmunds are looking for an administrator to join their support team. The role would see the apprentice working across different areas of the business and would enable them to develop the skills to support in -

  • Pastoral care.
  • Subject support teams.
  • General administration.

Each department would require a different type of support, but full training would be given.

Duties will involve:

  • Answering telephone calls and relaying messages/information as appropriate.
  • Delivering incoming post via a pigeon hole system.
  • Franking outgoing post.
  • Sending appropriate email communication messages.
  • Learning and processing of basic finance functions in line with local authority procedures.
  • Answering general student enquiries.
  • General administration duties such as typing correspondence to parents/carers.
  • Processing and storing of student-related paperwork.
  • General data entry.
  • Library support – issuing books and answering general student enquiries.
  • Provide administrative support for meetings.

Requirements and prospects

Desired skills

Essential:

  • Computer literate.
  • Keyboard skills.
  • Good communication both written and verbal.
  • Good organisation skills. 
  • Knowledge of IT systems such as Word, Excel, Outlook etc.

Desirable:

  • Problem-solving abilities.
  • Creative thinking. 

Personal qualities

  • Personable character with a good work ethic. 
  • Flexibility, good sense of humour and a quick thinker.

Qualifications required

  • GCSE Maths and English – grade C or above (or equivalent).

Future prospects

Permanent appointment within any of the areas in school or within the local authority. Positions are generally from £14615 - £15823 (pro rata)

Things to consider

This will be a demanding role but an opportunity to understand the different requirements of an administrative post. The ability to be confident in all situations with a definite can-do attitude. £4 per hour. Free parking. Suffolk County Council benefits scheme – discounts etc. 35 hours per week – term time + 1 week.
