    Wages explained

    The current National Minimum Wage for an apprentice is £3.50 an hour. This rate applies to apprentices under 19 and those aged 19 or over who are in their first year.
    Apprentices must be paid at least the minimum wage rate for their age if they are aged 19 or over and have completed their first year.
    The minimum wage rates are £5.60 an hour for 18-20 year olds and £7.05 for anyone aged 21 and over.
    Apprentices are paid for their normal working hours and training that’s part of their apprenticeship (usually one day per week).

Main duties include:

  • To install structured/voice cabling infrastructures
  • To refurbish and repair reclaimed telephony equipment
  • To assist engineers in installing telephony equipment in business premises.
  • To program telephone systems
  • Manage the stock room, and maintain records
  • Pack and Send customer orders
  • Update online e-sales registers

Requirements and prospects

Desired skills

Must be computer literate, with experience of Microsoft Office. The position will also involve making and receiving calls, so must be able to talk coherently, politely and courteously to our customers. English must be their first language. This person must be able to work on their own as well as part of a team.

Personal qualities

The job can be demanding at times, at others, repetitive. The right person will be enthusiastic, easily motivated, with a positive outlook.

Qualifications required

GCSE Grades ‘C’ and above in English Literature, English Language, Mathematics, and Science.

Future prospects

Full time position on successful completion of the apprenticeship.

Things to consider

There are no lifts in our premises, and we are on the first floor, the landlords refuse to change this, so mobility impaired applicants will struggle.
