    Wages explained

    The current National Minimum Wage for an apprentice is £3.50 an hour. This rate applies to apprentices under 19 and those aged 19 or over who are in their first year.
    Apprentices must be paid at least the minimum wage rate for their age if they are aged 19 or over and have completed their first year.
    The minimum wage rates are £5.60 an hour for 18-20 year olds and £7.05 for anyone aged 21 and over.
    Apprentices are paid for their normal working hours and training that’s part of their apprenticeship (usually one day per week).

Your duties will include but may not be limited to:

  • Answering the telephone and transferring calls/taking messages
  • Maintaining records relating to first aid qualifications and mini bus drivers
  • Oversight of 6th form Meal Time Assistants and checking of timesheets
  • Distributing e-mails to colleagues from central reception e-mail
  • Franking of post
  • Sort and distribute mail to staff pigeon holes
  • Any other administrative duties where necessary

Future prospects

Employment opportunities may be offered to the successful candidate on completion of the apprenticeship. Progression opportunities may also include advanced and higher apprenticeships, including which can equate to: NVQ Level 3 equivalent – 2 A Levels NVQ Level 4 equivalent – Higher Education Certificate/BTEC NVQ Level 5 equivalent – Higher Education Diploma/Foundation Degree

Things to consider

The National Minimum Wage (NMW) rate for apprentices is £3.50 per hour. This applies to 16-18 year old apprentices and those aged over 19 in the first year of their Apprenticeship. For all other apprentices the National Minimum wage appropriate to their age applies. The Minimum Wage for Apprentices applies to time spent on the job plus time spent training.
