    Wages explained

    The current National Minimum Wage for an apprentice is £3.50 an hour. This rate applies to apprentices under 19 and those aged 19 or over who are in their first year.
    Apprentices must be paid at least the minimum wage rate for their age if they are aged 19 or over and have completed their first year.
    The minimum wage rates are £5.60 an hour for 18-20 year olds and £7.05 for anyone aged 21 and over.
    Apprentices are paid for their normal working hours and training that’s part of their apprenticeship (usually one day per week).

  • To provide appropriate high quality of care by meeting the identified needs of our service users.

  • To provide a homely and well maintained environment which complies fully with Health, Safety and Fire Regulations.
  • To contribute to the efficient operation of the Home, by working as part of a team and working in line with organisational standards.
  • To work under the supervision of the nurse in charge or team leader/senior care assistant.
  • To treat the service users individually with respect and preserve their dignity.
  • To assist service users with their personal care giving appropriate level of assistance in areas of bathing, washing, dressing, personal hygiene and continence requirements.
  • To help service users with mobility/moving and handling problems and other physical disabilities
  • Use aids and personal equipment correctly in line with appropriate training.
  • To be able to report and account for accidents/incidents, that occur to a senior care staff and registered nurse.
  • To help in the promotion of mental and physical activity of service users through talking to them, taking them out, sharing with them in activities that they will enjoy and gain pleasure from.
  • To make and change beds, tidy rooms and do light cleaning, empty commodes.
  • To practice good personal washing techniques and hygiene requirements around catheter care, bodily fluids etc.
  • To inspect, and mend service users clothing as required.
  • To set up tables, trays and serve meals, assist to feed service users who need assistance, prepare light meals/snacks and tidy, wash up, clear dining areas.
  • To help with the assistance and distribution of any meals, and drinks throughout the day.
  • To answer call alarms, the door, the telephone in an appropriate manner and to welcome visitors.
  • To respond quickly and appropriately in the event of personal alarms sounding and alerting you to the need for assistance by fellow work colleagues.
  • To read and write reports, take part in staff and residents meetings and assist in reviews of service users where appropriate as part of the key worker roles and responsibilities.
  • To help maintain a health and safety environment in the home and to report all accidents and breakages or equipment in the need of attention, of any kind to the most senior person on duty.
  • To comply with all mandatory and specialist training required for your role.
