    Wages explained

    The current National Minimum Wage for an apprentice is £3.50 an hour. This rate applies to apprentices under 19 and those aged 19 or over who are in their first year.
    Apprentices must be paid at least the minimum wage rate for their age if they are aged 19 or over and have completed their first year.
    The minimum wage rates are £5.60 an hour for 18-20 year olds and £7.05 for anyone aged 21 and over.
    Apprentices are paid for their normal working hours and training that’s part of their apprenticeship (usually one day per week).

Overall job purpose:

To provide financial and administrative support for the effective and efficient running of the finance service to internal and external customers. To diligently undertake the apprenticeship programme, and assist in the operation of an effective finance function whilst applying skills learnt on the programme or from practical on the job training within the APM finance team.

For all of the tasks mentioned practical training will be provided. The successful candidate will also have regular reviews with a training mentor within the finance team, in order to develop an understanding of business protocols, the culture of the company and other relevant areas.

Key tasks:

  • To learn and then undertake various finance and administrative duties required within the business including photocopying, postal duties, filing documents, and similar tasks
  • To input AP invoices accurately following any processes laid down within the finance team
  • To scan invoices/credit notes to the SAP
  • To raise AR invoices and credit notes within SAP
  • To input petty cash to the SAP accounting system ensuring the journal posting balances to the petty cash return
  • To retrieve invoices/credit notes from scan files
  • To email suppliers and internal customers
  • To make telephone calls to internal and external customers, dealing with queries, checking information and requesting supporting information
  • Monthly meetings with Line Manager/Finance Mentor to discuss apprenticeship programme and progress to targets for the course, including monitoring progress within the team
  • To ensure daily, weekly, monthly deadlines are met in order to meet departments objectives
  • To adhere to APM quality/finance processes and procedures issued or as part of the QMS system
  • To undertake relevant training as appropriate
  • Under the Health & Safety at Work Act 1974 each employee has a responsibility to Health and Safety and must adhere to their responsibilities as laid out in the Health and Safety policy
