The main role of the position are to perform routine Necropsy, Histology, Technical Foetal Pathology and Sperm Analysis procedures. These will include a wide range of animal tissue preparation such as:

  • Trim and retain all organs from all species.
  • Perform caesarean necropsy techniques.
  • Perform external and visceral foetal examinations.
  • Use an on-line data capture system.
  • Prepare samples including washing slides, filling pots.
  • Preparations for skeletal examinations.
  • Preparation of rat/mouse foetuses and rabbit head sections.
  • Dissecting tissues.
  • Decalcification of bone tissues.

These many operations will be to the required quality, standard operating procedures (SOPs) good laboratory practice, (GLP) and Company standards.

Training provider

You will study for an Advanced Level 3 (PAA/VQSET) Apprenticeship in Laboratory and Science Technical Skills. You will gain a Level 3 Diploma in Laboratory Science, or  a Level 3 NVQ Certificate in Laboratory and Associated Technical Activities.  

One day per week you will be at college, where you will

  • Develop knowledge to upderpin good practice and understanding.
  • Develop personal learning and thinking skills.
