    Wages explained

    The current National Minimum Wage for an apprentice is £3.50 an hour. This rate applies to apprentices under 19 and those aged 19 or over who are in their first year.
    Apprentices must be paid at least the minimum wage rate for their age if they are aged 19 or over and have completed their first year.
    The minimum wage rates are £5.60 an hour for 18-20 year olds and £7.05 for anyone aged 21 and over.
    Apprentices are paid for their normal working hours and training that’s part of their apprenticeship (usually one day per week).

An Apprentice is required to work in a friendly restaurant to its dining customers. All aspects of the front of house duties in restaurant trade from table service to presentation will be an important part of your role.

Key duties would include:

  • Provide table service to restaurant customers
  • Obtain and pass on customer menu orders to the kitchen
  • Provide information to customers on restaurant food and drinks
  • Serving customers alcoholic drinks behind the bar counter
  • Serving hot and cold beverages at the bar and tables
  • Processing customer payment transactions
  • Maintaining the dining area keeping it clean, hygienic and presentable
  • Replenish stock food and drink stock areas
  • Set up drinks bar displays
  • Work as a team member with other staff to provide efficient service
  • Work with kitchen staff and chef to maintain serving times
  • Provide assistance in the kitchen for cooking and preparation of food
  • Cleaning of cooking equipment dining tableware
  • Clean all food and drink areas at close of business

Future prospects

Full time permanent position available if successful on Apprenticeship and the opportunity to gain skills and become a specialist in the restaurant trade. Pay will increase in agreement with management after satisfactory performance has been reviewed.

Things to consider

Candidates need to be a minimum of 18 years old for this role to serve alcoholic drinks. Pay increase to be agreed after management performance targets have been achieved. Meals may be provided during working hours. There may be some long hours working on your feet at the counter and restaurant floor. Must be able to work evening on shift patterns.
