The Shoe Inn together with Brockenhurst College, is looking to recruit an Apprentice Chef to work in our busy kitchen, whilst learning at the same time.

We are looking for an enthusiastic apprentice with the ability to maintain a high level of product knowledge in order to produce a consistent product, the ability to take initiative and importantly show commitment to the company and the scheme.

Ability to work well in a team and communicate at all levels is essential.

You will be given the opportunity to gain

experience in a busy kitchen, learning from an expert head chef and making a real impact to the business.

Varied duties will cover all aspects of kitchen operations to produce quality food and beverages:

  • food prep,
  • knife skills,
  • using, cleaning and maintaining kitchen utensils and equipment, fridges and cookers,
  • stock handling,
  • cleaning and general chef support.

Apprenticeship National Minimum Wage (ANMW): The National Minimum Wage for Apprentices is £3.50 per hour from 1st April 2017. This is the legal minimum pay per hour applying to 16-18 year old apprentices and those aged 19 and over in the first year of their apprenticeship. For apprentices 19 or over who have completed their first year and are continuing their apprenticeship, the National Minimum wage appropriate to their age applies.

Training provider

The successful candidate will undertake an Intermediate Apprenticeship including both on and off the job training.

Training will be carried out by Brockenhurst College at The Shoe Inn kitchens.

Though you may be requested to attend some sessions at Brockenhurst College for Assessment towards the end of your qualifications.

An Intermediate Apprenticeship in Professional Chef comprises of the following:

NVQ Level 2 City and Guilds Professional Cookery

Technical Certificate

Level 2 Functional Skills in English Level 1,and Maths Level 1 Employment Rights and Responsibilities Award in the Hospitality Industry

Training will be part of the contracted hours agreed that makes up the working week.
