You will be working directly under the Day School Teachers and will be responsible for helping ensure that the best possible environment and care is provided for the children. We are committed to ensuring that staff are provided with opportunities to develop their skills both professionally and personally to ensure that they can achieve their goals. Apprentices will be supported by our Teachers and will be involved in all aspects of the children’s daily care and education.

Main Duties:

  • Follow instructions and guidance from the classroom teacher to provide particular support for pupils, including those with special needs, reinforcing their learning and ensuring their understanding
  • Build constructive relationships with pupils, parents and carers
  • Promote the inclusion and acceptance of all pupils
  • Observe and be open to learn from the HLTA (Higher Level Teaching Assistant)
  • Provide feedback to pupils in relation to progress and achievement under guidance of the teacher
  • Assist with the display of pupils’ work as directed by the class teacher
  • If required, assist in the planning of learning activities
  • Make observations of pupils’ performance and responses to learning and provide detailed and regular feedback to enable the teacher to assess pupil progress
  • Provide general clerical support to the teacher e.g. photocopying, filing, laminating, collecting money etc
  • Attend relevant meetings and participate in training opportunities and performance development as required
  • Take responsibility for the supervision of pupils out of lesson times, as necessary- this could be before or after school or at lunchtimes/break times.
  • Accompany teaching staff and pupils on visits, trips and out of school activities as required, including taking responsibility for a group under the supervision of the teacher
  • Prepare the classroom for lessons ensuring that resources are in place and cleared away at the end of the session as appropriate
  • Assist with the general pastoral care of pupils, including helping those who are sick, distressed, injured or unsettled
  • Care for the safety of the children at all times.

  • Working knowledge of the Early Years Foundation Stage and current Ofsted statutory guidance

Qualifications required

  • To hold or be willing to work towards achieving  English and Mathematics GCSEs at level C or above or equivalent

Future prospects

We are keen to develop an apprentice to a high standard and would be pleased to be able to retain such a person upon qualification (subject to the companies circumstances).
