    Wages explained

    The current National Minimum Wage for an apprentice is £3.50 an hour. This rate applies to apprentices under 19 and those aged 19 or over who are in their first year.
    Apprentices must be paid at least the minimum wage rate for their age if they are aged 19 or over and have completed their first year.
    The minimum wage rates are £5.60 an hour for 18-20 year olds and £7.05 for anyone aged 21 and over.
    Apprentices are paid for their normal working hours and training that’s part of their apprenticeship (usually one day per week).

Apprentices will be employed and work in either a Francesco Group Salon, or an Independent Salon, undertaking Francesco Group Hairdressing Training.

All Apprentices will be employed between 30 and 40 hours per week by the salon and will be required to attend one of Francesco Group's Academies in Stafford, Birmingham or Poole, 2 days per month, for Theory and Practical Training.

Apprentices will carry out some of the following duties when starting their Hair Professional Apprenticeship:

  • Shampooing and Treatments
  • Blow-drying
  • Assisting other Staff Members
  • Reception Support

Apprentices will complete the Hair Professional Apprenticeship which includes Francesco Groups Business Enterprise Project, incorporating Maths, English and ICT.  Apprentices will also complete an additional Dermatitis Prevention Module.

The Apprenticeship covers a range of practical skills and relevant theoretical knowledge to prepare apprentices for entry into the hairdressing industry.

  • Dermatitis Prevention Module - Additional Module
  • Client Consultation Module
  • Shampoo, Condition and Treat the Hair Module
  • Style and Finish Hair Module (Including Blow Drying and Setting)
  • Colouring Module
  • Cutting Module

The Hair Professional Apprenticeship also includes 3 Optional Units, which Apprentices will choose 1 of the 3 following modules to complete:

  • Perming Module
  • Hair Relaxing Module
  • Hair Extensions Module

The Hair Professional Apprenticeships is an 18 month Qualification and includes a Practical End-Point Assessment, to be completed at the end of the qualification.

Throughout the Apprenticeship, there will be Four Inspirational Courses for Apprentices to attend.  Two of the Inspirational Sessions will be held at Francesco Group's Academies and will be carried out by Francesco Group's own Creative Team.  Two of the Inspirational Sessions will be External Sessions.
