Church Street Surgery is looking for enthusiastic and ambitious individual, to learn all aspects of Administration within a General Practice.

Full Training will be provided.

Key Responsibilities include:

  • Greeting all members of the public that are visiting the surgery.
  •   Making and Receiving relevant calls to patients and external departments (such as hospitals, other health care clinics).
  •   Recording appointments, arrivals, cancellations, future appointment and processing home visits on the computer databases.
  •   Entering and scan data from hospital letters.
  •   Dealing with mail and deliveries incoming as well as outgoing.
  •   Ensuring patients notes are in relevant rooms upon commencement of surgeries/clinics.
  •   Making sure patient notes are up to date with any forms that need to be forwarded to external authorities.
  •   Ensuring telephones are switched to answer phone and premises are secured after final surgery.
  •   Make tea/coffee for clinical and other staff
  •   Covering other shifts, as may be required, in the absences of other staff.

 Any other such duties as be reasonably required


Requirements and prospects

Desired skills

A large amount of data is entered onto the patient computer records and therefore it is preferred that the applicant is computer literate, although full training on our software will be given.

Personal qualities

This post requires a pleasant person with presentable and smart appearance.

Duties include dealing with members of the public who maybe, as patients, be in a distressed and /or insistent in their demands, therefore excellent communications skills are essential attributes.

Qualifications required

5 GCSE grades C and above including English and Maths

Future prospects

This role will provide an excellent grounding within the NHS and there will be ample opportunities for the successful candidate to progress within the organisation. Internal and external training courses will be available.

Things to consider

This is a position dealing with members of the general public. The candidate should possess good communication skills and have a calm and professional manner. They should wear appropriate business like clothing.

Church Street Surgery is a large, busy doctor’s practice serving the local population with a register size of approximately 9300 patients. The successful candidate will be joining a team of: 2 GP partners, 4 salaried GP, 2 practice managers, 4 practice nurses, 1 Health Care Assistant and 11 part time administrators / receptionists.
