The Job Role:

  • To operate effectively by following a schedule of border maintenance and grass cutting routes and any other work instructions
  • To ensure all documentation is completed in a timely and accurate manner
  • To undertake the necessary daily checks (e.g. vehicles, plant and machinery)
  • Ensure that the site is left in a clean condition and any debris are cleaned up and remove from site.
  • To comply with all traffic laws and legislation with relation to your duties including the security and weight of loads
  • Compliance with company policies and Health & Safety standards
  • To wear the correct safety equipment at all times
  • To maintain regular contact with your line manager throughout the day to advise of progress and any work that may not have been done
  • To act as ambassadors on behalf of the Company, ensuring that the client is treated courteously and respectfully and that their requirements are complied with where safe to do so
  • To conform with all applicable site rules when off-loading at disposal sites
  • Knowledge and understanding of grass cutting machinery
  • To be flexible with required mobility throughout the area covered by the contract
  • To undertake light driving as and when required (if and when qualified to do so)
  • To perform any other duties reasonably requested by management.

Requirements and prospects

Desired skills


  • Relevant hobbies and work experience desirable e.g. gardening, work experience in a garden centre or nursery
  • Willingness to learn how to drive and operate machinery e.g. obtain C1 driving license, use ride-on mowers, small plant e.g. strimmers, blowers
  • Willingness to undertake and complete NVQ study in Amenity Horticulture

The current National Minimum Wage for an apprentice is £3.50 an hour. This rate applies to apprentices under 19 and those aged 19 or over who are in their first year. Apprentices must be paid at least the minimum wage rate for their age if they are aged 19 or over and have completed their first year. The minimum wage rates are £5.60 an hour for 18-20 year olds and £7.05 for anyone aged 21 and over. Apprentices are paid for their normal working hours and training that’s part of their apprenticeship (usually one day per week).
