    Wages explained

    The current National Minimum Wage for an apprentice is £3.50 an hour. This rate applies to apprentices under 19 and those aged 19 or over who are in their first year.
    Apprentices must be paid at least the minimum wage rate for their age if they are aged 19 or over and have completed their first year.
    The minimum wage rates are £5.60 an hour for 18-20 year olds and £7.05 for anyone aged 21 and over.
    Apprentices are paid for their normal working hours and training that’s part of their apprenticeship (usually one day per week).

The key responsibilities of the role and the day to day tasks and duties of the role are:

  • Table service.
  • Taking orders using an iPad.
  • Complaint handling.
  • Upselling orders.
  • Dealing with telephone enquiries.
  • Cash handling.
  • Table and room planning.
  • Cellar management.
  • Stocktaking.

Requirements and prospects

Desired skills

  • We are looking for an individual with a high level of customer service skill aswell as an interest in the hospitality sector.
  • You must be prepared to learn and be hardworking.

Personal qualities

  • Attitude is very important.
  • Must be an enthusiastic team player with a sense of humour and plenty of common sense.
  • Personal hygiene is very important.
  • Must be able to accept criticism.

Qualifications required

  • 4 GCSE’s at grades A*- D including Maths and English (or equivalent).

You must achieve at least a Level 1 on the Initial Assessment that is completed during an Apprenticeship Selection Event at College.

Future prospects

A full time position for the right person on completion of Apprenticeship.
