You will work within a team and be caring on a day to day basis under the supervision of senior staff for the Elderly residents. This is a rewarding role that requires lots of patience, sensitivity and dedication and would suit a mature young person interested in a career in social care.  Duties will include:

  • Assist the staff to provide person centred care to the residents in accordance with policies and procedures of quality and safety
  • Assist with personal care, toileting, feeding, helping with recreational activities

Qualifications required

No formal qualifications required, but a good understanding of literacy and numeracy is important.

Future prospects

After completion of Level 2 Health and Social Care it may be possible to progress to an Advanced Apprenticeship to Complete Level 3 Health & Social Care.

Things to consider

You will be required to undertake an enhanced DBS check performed by the Employer. The role will involve working shifts on weekdays and weekends. The current National Minimum Wage for an apprentice is £3.50 an hour. This rate applies to apprentices under 19 and those aged 19 or over who are in their first year. Apprentices must be paid at least the minimum wage rate for their age if they are aged 19 or over and have completed their first year. The minimum wage rates are £5.60 an hour for 18-20 year olds and £7.05 for anyone aged 21 and over. Apprentices are paid for their normal working hours and training that’s part of their apprenticeship (usually one day per week). For more information visit:

About the employer

The Cyder Barn is a care home providing support for 40 elderly people. The home works to ensure the highest level of care for its clients and the personal development of every member of staff. We provide a homely environment that supports the physical and emotional well-being of the people living in our home, many of whom have Dementia.
