  • To undergo a structured training programme in relation to a range of horticultural activities or landscape maintenance.
  • To undertake training to carry out maintenance duties as instructed by, and under the supervision of Team Leader and relevant staff.
  • To learn and develop new skills and competencies to ensure the standards of work are consistent and compliant with the specification and method statement provided.
  • Follow an Apprentice training programme designed to build up new skills and competencies.
  • Understand and follow the Councils Health and Safety Policy and observe it at all times. Also be familiar and understand the Council and customer safety rules and follow them at all times.
  • Use only the materials and tools provided by the Council.
  • The Operative must acknowledge and accept a personal responsibility for safety.
  • Report all accidents and dangerous occurrences and give full co-operation to anyone carrying out investigations.
  • To take responsibility for ensuring that plant and equipment is maintained and fit for purpose. Inform the Team Leader of any defects to customer premises, plant or equipment.
  • Attend safety meetings as required.
  • Follow instruction from Health and Safety representatives who are also available to provide safety advice and support
  • Undertake all works in a skilled manner. Understand the correct SSoWs for the task to be undertaken. Be prepared to undertake further training as required.
  • Liaise with colleagues, Supervisor or Assistant Grounds Maintenance Operations Manager regarding any defective/unsafe equipment/hazards or issues affecting personnel or the operation.

Qualifications required

GCSE A*-C required or equivelant

Things to consider

Working environment:Outside, urban and country areas This role is based outside and in all weathers – appropriate clothing is provided but you must be able to deal with the British weather. No public transport links.
