Day to day duties will include:

  • To complete & dispatch samples within agreed schedules.
  •  To maintain a clean & safe working environment in the sample area.
  • To complete design exercises under guidance.
  • To continue the development of more advanced design skills.
  • To maintain & control all sample making sundries.
  • To follow & maintain all safety& security aspects of the sample area.
  • Decision Making Associated with the Position.
  • To check own work.
  • To take responsibility for organizing priorities & Deadlines.

Requirements and prospects

Desired skills

  • Follow basic instructions, extracting details from more than one source.
  • Demonstrate basic computer literacy.
  • Plan own work to meet deadlines.
  • Produce straight forward designs under supervision.
  • Control the replenishment of sample board.
  • Control & administrate delivery of consignments to clients.

The Packaging Technician needs to have a basic understanding of:

  • The structure & performance of corrugated fiberboard.
  • Creasing allowances.
  • Purpose and use of CAD.
  • The use & safety implications of all sample making equipment

The Packaging Technician needs to be able to:

  • Establish & maintain effective working relationships across all departments.
  • Deal effectively & professionally with clients and suppliers.
  • Make effective contributions to meetings.

Personal qualities

Must be 18+ due to the nature of machinery involved in the company.

Qualifications required

Minimum A-C GCSE in Maths and English or equivalent and L2 Graphic Design. You must also have a good Art and Design GCSE Grade,  ICT and an interest in structural design.

Opportunity of a permanent role and career progression with a set path for the right candidate (Promotions available to Sample Maker, Designer then Sales/Design).

As part of this apprenticeship, you will be required to travel to both the employer location (Burntwood) and also attend college (Birmingham City Centre).
