    Wages explained

    The current National Minimum Wage for an apprentice is £3.50 an hour. This rate applies to apprentices under 19 and those aged 19 or over who are in their first year.
    Apprentices must be paid at least the minimum wage rate for their age if they are aged 19 or over and have completed their first year.
    The minimum wage rates are £5.60 an hour for 18-20 year olds and £7.05 for anyone aged 21 and over.
    Apprentices are paid for their normal working hours and training that’s part of their apprenticeship (usually one day per week).

Duties include/to:

  • Undertake instructions from site supervisor.
  • Safely use hand tools.
  • Prepare ground for seeding, planting and turfing.
  • Safely use power hand tools (auger, strimmer, Avant, ride-on mower) to carry out soft landscaping and maintenance works.
  • Abiding to Health and Safety procedures.
  • Carry out soft landscaping works: seeding, planting, mulching and turfing.

Qualifications required

  • No experience or qualifications required as full training will be given
  • Candidate should have basic literacy and numeracy skills and be able to complete the Intermediate Apprenticeship
  • GCSE's (or equivalent) in Maths and English would be beneficial.

Training provider

Day release at Riseholme College on Wednesdays during term time to complete the Level 2 Workbased Diploma in Horticulture, Functional Skills in Maths and English if necessary, Personal Learning and Thinking Skills and Employer Rights and Responsibilities.  Assessments, observations and work-based reviews will be completed in the workplace every 8-10 weeks.
