  • Prepare surgery and instruments for dental procedures.
  • Ensure that surgery is setup prior to the start of each session.
  • Carry out rigorous infection control procedures within the surgery. E.g. cleaning all instruments; sterilization; disposal of clinical waste.
  • Work in the decontamination room and follow all infection control procedures.
  • Keep surgery neat and tidy at all times.
  • Support the dentist at chairside during dental procedures.
  • Support patients during visits for dental treatment.
  • Assist in the care of a patient during a medical/dental emergency should this be necessary.
  • Process and mount radiographs.
  • Maintain and control dental stock, equipment, and materials.
  • Record cards, lab dockets etc. to be written up correctly and returned to reception.
  • Promote patient oral health by health education under the direction of the dentist.
  • Undertake reception duties, clerical, administrative procedures as and when required.
  • To be flexible in your duties to ensure the smooth running of the practice.
  • You may be required to carry out any other duties considered to be within your skill and competence to assist with the smooth running of the practice and facilitate the treatment of patients, when it is considered necessary or appropriate by management.

Things to consider

Excellent public transport links, no parking at the practice available. The Apprenticeship National Minimum Wage (ANMW): From April 2017 the ANMW was set at £3.50 per hour. This applies to 16-18 year old apprentices and those aged 19 and over in the first year of their Apprenticeship. For all other apprentices the National Minimum wage appropriate to their age applies. The Minimum Wage for Apprentices applies to time spent on the job plus time spent training.
