    Wages explained

    The current National Minimum Wage for an apprentice is £3.50 an hour. This rate applies to apprentices under 19 and those aged 19 or over who are in their first year.
    Apprentices must be paid at least the minimum wage rate for their age if they are aged 19 or over and have completed their first year.
    The minimum wage rates are £5.60 an hour for 18-20 year olds and £7.05 for anyone aged 21 and over.
    Apprentices are paid for their normal working hours and training that’s part of their apprenticeship (usually one day per week).

Main Duties:

  • Work with the HR Team providing first line support to staff, ensuring all staff are dealt with in a friendly and efficient manner and in line with College quality systems.
  • Assist in the recruitment process, including preparation and distribution of recruitment packs. Process and send all pre and post interview communications and escort candidates on interview day.
  • Deal with enquiries from members of the public, staff and organisations, both over the phone and in person.
  • Conduct basic pre-employment checks including DBS and references.
  • Ensure that all paper and computer based records are effectively updated and accurately maintained.
  • Maintain and monitor the Human Resources Inbox and Recruitment Inbox and correspond to enquiries accordingly.
  • Monitor sickness absence levels and produce reports as required.
  • Monitor and schedule probations reviews. 
  • Provide general administrative support to the Human Resources Team.
  • Sort and deliver the post for the Human Resources Team.
  • Monitor absence telephone line as required.

You will also be required to comply with Health & Safety regulations and complete the Apprenticeship programme within the timescales outlined by the Business Administration Vocational Trainer.

The post holder may be required to perform duties other than those given in the job description. The particular duties and responsibilities attached to the post may vary from time to time without changing the general character of the duties or the level of responsibility entailed.

Other than attending college for ‘workshops’, approximately twice a month, the Intermediate Apprenticeship Framework training programme in Business Administration is primarily delivered in the workplace unless, should you not possess suitable concession qualifications, you are also required to attend college to undertake Functional Skills Qualification

Things to consider

The job may require long periods of computer use. There will be times when the work may be repetitive or monotonous. The nature of working in Human Resources means that you will see and hear confidential information (personal information, medical information, payroll information) which must not be discussed beyond the Human Resources department. The successful applicant will be required to undertake an enhanced disclosure via the Disclosure and Barring Service. The post is exempt from the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974 and therefore all convictions, cautions and bind-overs, including those regarded as ‘spent’, must be declared.
